To help women in need to grow in dignity and self-worth, through the development of additional skills and abilities.

The Magdalene Sewing Centre Pte Ltd, formed and registered in 2003, is the brainchild of a lively Italian Canossian nun, Sr. Marcellina, gifted in teaching sewing and dressmaking.

At the Catholic Welfare Vocational Training Centre she taught girls of low intellectual ability to sew. They are mainly Primary school dropouts who study the rudiments of sewing and dressmaking.

Sr. Marcellina also conducted dressmaking courses in the evenings for working girls and housewives. Most of the girls who attended were earning low wages and wanted to take the opportunity to learn a new, efficient and moden method of dressmaking in which Sr. Marcellina specialised.

We provide employment for girls from poor families. We also give work to housewives with small children. We send them uniforms to sew so that they can earn some money while looking after their families. Most of our girls have been with us for more than 20 years.

Always concerned for their welfare, Sr. Marcellina arranges for the Canossian Sisters to counsel and give the girls advice on how to lead more meaningful lives.
